As the founding member and songwriter of the band Goanna, formed in 1977, Howard helped create one of Australia’s most powerful musical statements with the band’s iconic hit Solid Rock (Sacred Ground). From Parliament House to Uluru, campfires to concert halls, Howard’s songs have long been a voice for justice and country. Solid Rock “lit a fire for the rights of Aboriginal people… that hasn’t gone out,” and its legacy is cemented in the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia.
